Zusammenfassung
Genres realisieren einen hilfreichen Brückenschlag zwischen Videospielen und Filmen. Aus dem Kino vertraute Settings des Horror-, Fantasy-, Science-Fiction und Abenteuerfilms werden in Spielen häufig als Orientierungshilfe für die Spieler herangezogen. In einigen Fällen wie dem Piraten-Adventure Monkey Island oder den Survival Horror-Spielen Resident Evil und Silent Hill leisten die Spiele sogar eigenständige Beiträge zu einer transmedialen Genre-Geschichte. Anknüpfend an Rick Altmans pragmatisches Genre-Modell erläutert der Beitrag verschiedene Ansätze zur Genre-Analyse in den Game Studies.
