Zusammenfassung
Die bisherige Forschung zum Online-Wahlkampf hat sich primär auf die Adaption der neuen technischen Möglichkeiten durch die Politik konzentriert und die politische Internetnutzung durch das Elektorat eher vernachlässigt. Der vorliegende Beitrag untersucht die Nutzung der im Internet verbreiteten Wahlkampfkommunikation im Kontext der Bundestagswahlen 2009 und 2013 sowie sechs wichtiger Landtagswahlen in diesem Zeitraum. Neben dem generellen Umfang der Internetnutzung und ihrer Entwicklung im Zeitverlauf fragt er nach etwaigen Differenzen in der Rezeption des Online-Wahlkampfes auf Bundes- und Länderebene. Eine systematische Variation der Nutzung des Internets auf Bundes- und Länderebene kann dabei nicht belegt werden, wohl aber Unterschiede zwischen einzelnen Wahlgängen. Kontextfaktoren des Wahlkampfs erweisen sich neben individuellen Bestimmungsfaktoren als bedeutsame Ursachen der Varianz politischer Internetnutzung.
