Zusammenfassung
Bereits kurze Zeit nach der Erfindung des Filmes haben sich vielfältige Stimmen der Filmanalyse zu Wort gemeldet. Nach den eher negativen Stimmen, die Film vor allem als Ausdruck kultureller Verarmung interpretierten, kam es im Zuge der Diskussion über die Postmoderne zu einer differenzierteren Analyse des Filmes. Thematisiert wurde vor allem das Verhältnis zwischen Film und anderen Kunst- und Erzählformen. Der vorliegende Beitrag zeichnet die wesentlichen Positionen der kritischen Filmanalyse von den Anfangstagen bis heute nach. Schwerpunkte werden vor allem auf die psychoanalytische Tradition, Semiotische Analysen, die Kritik der politischen Ökonomie und postmoderne Stimmen gelegt.

Für Umberto Eco liegt der „Kultfaktor“ eines Filmes vor allem in der Verknüpfung von bekannten Elementen, „Archetypen“, die bei den Betrachter_innen an etwas Bekanntes erinnern, also gerade nicht in der Originalität (Eco 1985). Ein Film bleibt dann in besonderer Erinnerung, wenn er etwas in uns „bewegt“. Szenen, die einen Film großartig machen, sind Zitate und Anspielungen aus anderen bekannten Kulturgütern.
