Zusammenfassung
Migration ist weitgehend eine „family affair“, also eine Familienangelegenheit; denn wie der amerikanische Soziologe Rubén Rumbaut (1997) betont, ist Familie im Migrationsprozess von besonderer Bedeutung. Dieser bringt für alle Familienmitglieder ganz unterschiedliche Herausforderungen mit sich, beispielsweise die Notwendigkeit, sich an eine neue Umgebung, eine neue Kultur und meistens auch an eine neue Sprache zu adaptieren. Rollenmuster und grundlegende Orientierungen können in der aufnehmenden Gesellschaft vollkommen andere sein als in der Herkunftsgesellschaft.
