Zusammenfassung
Philosophers have rarely argued for the significance of humor in the good life. Three Modern thinkers stand out as exceptions: the British Enlightenment philosopher, the third Earl of Shaftesbury, the German 18th century philosopher, Johann Georg Hamann, and the 19th century Danish philosopher, Søren Kierkegaard. All three are deeply religious: Shaftesbury’s philosophy is ultimately a religious faith, Hamann converted early in life to Lutheran Protestantism, the religion of his youth, and Kierkegaard is profoundly Christian.
