Zusammenfassung
Normen und Werte gelten gewöhnlich als die Grundlage der Ordnung der Gesellschaft und ihres Zusammenhaltes. In der Folge wird an einen Wertekonsens appelliert und wird die Einhaltung der zentralen Normen gefordert. Soziologische Analysen können jedoch aufzeigen, dass eine solche Betrachtung allzu vereinfachend ist. Denn Werte und Normen sind umstritten und es ist vielfach unklar, was aus ihnen z. B. für politische Entscheidungen oder für das alltägliche Handeln folgt. Zudem ist es keineswegs eindeutig, dass Anpassung an geltende Normen und Werte notwendig besser ist als ihre Kritik oder Überschreitung. Der Beitrag zeigt die soziale Bedeutung von Normen und Werten für Gemeinschaften und Gesellschaften auf.
