Zusammenfassung
Produzierende Unternehmen sehen sich aufgrund des technologischen Fortschritts, der Commoditisierung von Produkten, des zunehmenden Wettbewerbsdrucks sowie der gestiegenen Kundenanforderungen großen Herausforderungen gegenüber, die sie dazu veranlassen, neue Geschäftsmodelle zu entwickeln (Möller et al. 2005, S. 1274; Bruhn et al. 2015, S. 135). Durch das zusätzliche Anbieten von Dienstleistungen sehen die Produkthersteller die Chance, ihre Wettbewerbsfähigkeit zu sichern (Bruhn et al. 2015, S. 135) sowie eine lange und gewinnbringende Kundenbeziehung aufzubauen (Johnson/Mena 2007, S. 27). Diese Entwicklung vom Produkthersteller zum Dienstleister wird in der englischsprachigen, wissenschaftlichen Literatur als Servitization (z. B. Vandermerwe/Rada 1988) und in der deutschen Literatur als Servicetransformation (z. B. Bruhn et al. 2015) bezeichnet.
