Zusammenfassung

Seit den 1990er Jahren – und seit Mitte der 2000ern nicht zuletzt auch in Deutschland – findet der Ruf nach einem Recht auf Stadt im Rahmen sozialer Konflikte in vielen Städten der Welt erneut wiederhall. Formuliert wird dabei ein breites Unbehagen über die gegenwärtigen städtischen Lebensrealitäten: steigende Mietpreise und Segregation, das Schwinden nicht kommerzieller Freiräume, rassistische, sexistische und homophobe Ausgrenzung, die um sich greifende soziale Kontrolle, die Minderung der demokratischen Teilhabe, der ausbleibende ökologische Umbau etc. Die dabei so wichtige Parole Recht auf Stadt formulierte Henri Lefebvre 1968.
