In ihrer Monografie entwickelt sie eine eigenständige Theorie der Genese der „Finanzialisierung“ der US-amerikanischen Wirtschaft. Krippner zeichnet die Etablierung von Finanzialisierung auf Grundlage einer empirischen Analyse der historischen Entwicklungsstufen des politischen und ökonomischen Wandels in den USA von den 1960er Jahren bis zum Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts nach.
