Zusammenfassung
Im vergangenen Jahrzehnt wurden in der Forschung zu alltäglicher Mobilität zahlreiche Versuche unternommen, Mobilität im Kontext individueller Lebensläufe, ihrer Pfadabhängigkeiten sowie ihrer sozialen, ökonomischen und raumzeitlichen Verknüpfungen besser zu verstehen. Dieser Beitrag versucht eine knappe Bestandsaufnahme dieser Ansätze. Hierzu wird zunächst das Konzept der Mobilitätsbiografien vorgestellt. Dabei wird insbesondere die Bedeutung von Routinen (Habits), mit Mobilität verknüpften weiteren Lebensdomänen sowie Übergängen und Schlüsselereignissen im Lebenslauf diskutiert. In einem weiteren Schritt werden individuelle Mobilitätsbiografien durch Rekurs auf die Konzepte der Sozialisation und der „Linked Lives“ in einen weiteren sozialen Kontext eingebettet. Zudem wird kursorisch die Bedeutung der jeweiligen historischen Kontextbedingungen für Mobilitätsbiografien gestreift. Der Beitrag schließt mit einem Ausblick auf die weitere Forschung.

Der Begriff Mobilität wird hier benutzt, um die verschiedenen Dimensionen des Verkehrsverhaltens (Wegehäufigkeit, Reisedistanzen, Verkehrsmittelwahl etc.) und die Verfügbarkeit von ‚mobility tools‘ (Pkw, ÖPNV-Zeitkarten, Fahrräder etc.) zu erfassen.

Diese ‚Teilbiografien‘ werden auch als Zyklen bezeichnet (Familienzyklus, Erwerbszyklus). Dieser Begriff legt einen mehr oder weniger vorgezeichneten, geschlossenen Verlauf nahe, der in eine begrenzte Anzahl typischer Stadien zerlegt werden kann. Die Forschung über Individualisierung und Lebensstile verdeutlicht jedoch, dass dies der Realität nicht mehr gerecht wird.

Externe Bedingungen beziehen sich hier nicht auf Bedingungen auf der Individualebene, die sich im Lebenslauf ändern können, sondern auf makroökonomische, soziale, technologische und politische Rahmenbedingungen, die für die gesamte Bevölkerung relevant sind.
