Bis heute ist Clausewitz’ Diktum vom Krieg als der Fortsetzung der Politik mit anderen Mitteln grundsätzlich ein Nationalstaaten übergreifender common sense. Wenngleich wir Europäer im 20. Jahrhundert erfahren haben, dass Staaten Krieg auch um seiner selbst willen führen – z. B. aufgrund totaler Ideologien, die nur totalen Sieg oder vollständigen Untergang kennen – ist festzustellen, dass im 21. Jahrhundert diese Form des Krieges nur mehr von ‚irregulären‘ bewaff – neten Gruppen wie z. B.
