Zusammenfassung
Der Buchbeitrag zeigt die Wichtigkeit unterschiedlicher theoretischer Ansätze für die Erklärung der Arbeitsmarktsituation der neuesten Einwanderungskohorten. Beim Thema Humankapital steht die Übertragbarkeit des ausländischen Abschlusses im Vordergrund. Denn es zeigt sich, dass Migranten, deren Qualifikationen anerkannt werden, schneller eine höherwertige Stelle erlangen. Wenn es um kulturelle Ressourcen geht, spielen Sprachkenntnisse als entscheidender Faktor für eine erfolgreiche Eingliederung in den Arbeitsmarkt eine größere Rolle. Bezüglich der Rolle sozialer Netzwerke zeigt sich, dass Migranten, die interethnische Beziehungen unterhalten, auf dem deutschen Arbeitsmarkt erfolgreicher sind; hingegen finden diejenigen, die Kontakte zu ko-ethnischen Gruppen pflegen, schneller eine Beschäftigung – die allerdings nicht unbedingt von hohem Ansehen ist. Während Migranten unter bestimmten Bedingungen niedrig angesehene Beschäftigungen sogar „bevorzugen“ können, sind auch Arbeitgeber in gewissen Wirtschaftsbereichen eventuell daran interessiert, die weniger anspruchsvolle und flexible Arbeitskraft der Zuwanderer zu rekrutieren. Beides stimmt mit den Argumenten der Dualen Arbeitsmarkttheorie überein. Diskriminierung scheint ebenfalls eine Rolle zu spielen, wobei sich die bisher vorliegenden empirischen Hinweise hauptsächlich auf die Ungleichbehandlung türkeistämmiger Migranten beziehen.
