Abstract
In Auseinandersetzung mit aktuellen Herausforderungen der Europäischen Union wie der hohen Jugendarbeitslosigkeit, der möglichen Ausarbeitung eines europäischen Mindestlohnregimes und der Fortbildung sozialer Grundrechte wird in diesem Beitrag eine Rückbesinnung auf europäische Werte gefordert. Dabei wird aufgezeigt, inwiefern das soziale Europa bereits rechtlich in den Verträgen verankert ist und argumentiert, dass eine engagierte Umsetzung der kodifizierten Werte notwendig ist. Dafür werden beispielhaft mehrere Politikfelder angeführt, die für die Entwicklung und Stärkung der sozialen Dimension von großer Bedeutung sind. Hierzu zählen Maßnahmen gegen Arbeitslosigkeit, die Erhöhung der Investitionsquote, die Stärkung der Industriepolitik und die Verankerung von verbindlichen sozialen Zielen.
