Zusammenfassung
Das Kapitel stellt hauptsächlich quantitative Methoden der Arbeitsmarktforschung dar, die das Ziel verfolgen, die generellen Mechanismen des Arbeitsmarktgeschehens zu beschreiben oder zu erklären. Zunächst diskutiert der Autor Fragen zu verschiedenen Forschungsdesigns und Datenquellen und gibt schließlich einen Überblick über die wichtigsten Auswertungsmethoden. Der Ausblick verweist ergänzend auf einige qualitative Methoden, mit denen Wahrnehmungen und Handlungen einzelner Arbeitsmarktakteure untersucht werden. Zur Illustration behandelt das gesamte Kapitel die gemeinsame Forschungsfrage: Warum unterscheidet sich die berufliche Mobilität nach Geschlecht?
