Die Bedeutung der Gruppentheorie wird durch die moderne Entwicklung der Differentialgeometrie nicht geschmälert. Im Gegenteil, die Liesche Gruppentheorie ist die einzige Theorie, die in der Lage ist, die Verbindung zwischen den einzelnen Gebieten der Differentialgeometrie herzustellen. Élie Cartan (1869-1951) In diesem Kapitel sollen die beiden fundamentalen Begriffe der Differentialgeometrie (i) kovariante Richtungsableitung und (ii) Krümmung betrachtet werden. Dabei spielt der Begriff des Bündels eine zentrale Rolle. Bündel gehören zu den wichtigsten Objekten der modernen Mathematik und Physik.
