Zusammenfassung

Das Asthma bronchiale gilt als häufigste chronische Krankheit des Kindesalters und ist trotz gut verfügbaren und effektiven Medikamenten nach wie vor mit einer relevanten Morbidität verbunden. Asthma bronchiale ist häufiger Grund für Schulabsenz, führt zu volkswirtschaftlich belastenden Behandlungskosten und wird je nach subjektivem Standpunkt verschieden erlebt. Patienten berichten über wiederholtes, zum Teil situativ gebundenes, meist exspiratorisches Pfeifen (Giemen, Brummen), über chronischen, oft infektunabhängigen, vorwiegend nächtlichen Reizhusten sowie über meist anstrengungsabhängig empfundene inspiratorische Atemnot und beklagen die durch Asthma bedingte Einschränkung im täglichen Leben. Für Eltern bedeutet das Leben mit einem asthmatisch erkrankten Kind die regelmäßige zumeist inhalative Verabreichung von Medikamenten, die zum Teil kostenaufwendige Umgebungskontrolle und die emotionale Belastung und Angst vor bedrohlichen Asthmaanfällen. Für den behandelnden Arzt beinhaltet Asthma bronchiale die Zielsetzung, dank individueller Betreuung eine umfassende Symptomfreiheit, eine altersgerechte Aktivität und Entwicklung der Kinder und eine gute Lebensqualität zu erreichen.
