Zusammenfassung
Gutartige Prostataerkrankungen sind häufig mit Blasenfunktionsstörungen und Schmerzen verbunden und können die Lebensqualität der Patienten beeinträchtigen. Bei der benignen Prostatahyperplasie (BPH) handelt es sich ausschließlich um eine histologische Diagnose. Der Begriff LUTS (lower urinary tract symptoms) beschreibt Symptome des unteren Harntraktes, welche verschiedene Ursachen habe können. Sofern LUTS im Zusammenhang mit BPH auftritt, wird international von LUTS suggestive of BPH und im deutschsprachigen Raum vom benignen Prostatasyndrom (BPS) gesprochen. Die Symptome gutartiger Prostataerkrankungen sind klinisch oftmals ähnlich, die Ursachen multikausal. Während das BPS ein Phänomen bei Männern in der 2. Lebenshälfte (Alter >40 Jahre) ist, tritt die Prostatitis gehäuft bei jüngeren Männern (18- bis 40-jährigen) auf. Die Therapie richtet sich nach der Ursache der Erkrankung. Eine vergrößerte Prostata kann medikamentös als auch chirurgisch behandelt werden. Bei der bakteriellen Prostatitis hingegen ist die Antibiose Therapie der Wahl.
