Abstract
Child maltreatment is a major public health problem worldwide. It has lifelong consequences for the affected children and is associated with substantial reduction of their well-being and health. The knowledge of the changes in the behavior of the children suffering from physical or sexual abuse is important for all medical professions. Specialized child protection teams within the hospital or as a part of the social network are trained to perform these investigations in a very careful way for the child. This chapter describes the typical signs and consequences in cases of physical or sexual child abuse and Munchausen by proxy syndrome.
