Zusammenfassung
Auch wenn kaum zuverlässig festzustellen ist, wann und von wem das Konzept Organisationskultur zuerst eingeführt wurde, lässt sich der erste große Hype um das Thema auf den Beginn der 1980er-Jahre datieren. Das wurde im vorausgegangenen Kapitel bereits erörtert. Eine Vielzahl organisationskultureller Konzepte entstand und ihnen allen liegt folgende Überlegung zugrunde: Das organisationale Leben wird stark von Faktoren beeinflusst, die nicht offenbar sind, sondern subtil aus dem Hintergrund wirken und oft unbewusster Art sind.

Dies gilt insbesondere, wenn Schriften etwa ostasiatischer oder russischer Autoren mit in Betracht gezogen werden. Die in diesen Kulturkreisen oftmals viel enger verflochtenen Strukturen von Staat und Organisationen jedweder Art führten dazu, dass kulturbezogene Schriften eher der Rubrik Politik oder Kultur im Allgemeinen zuzuordnen wären und weniger der Rubrik Wirtschaft oder Organisation.

Gründe dafür sind neben unrealistischen oder mehrdeutigen Aussagen, auch inhaltliche Differenzen. Es wird argumentiert, dass die Inhalte weder zum Unternehmen noch zur Umwelt passen; außerdem, dass sie in die falsche Richtung zeigten. Dadurch verlören sie ihre Wirkung und unternehmensinterne Machtverhältnisse würden maßgeblich für das, was geschieht und entschieden wird.
