Über einzelne soziale Beziehungen hinausgehend, öffnet das Konzept des sozialen Netzwerks den Blick für die » Gesamtheit « der sozialen Beziehungen und macht die Kontextgebundenheit oder – wie Mark Granovetter (1985) es nennt – die » embeddedness « sozialen Handelns zum Thema.
