Während W. Notwendigkeit im Tractatus logico-philosophicus rein logisch versteht, führt ihn seine an den TLP anschließende philosophische Tätigkeit zu mehr wissenschaftstheoretischen Fragestellungen (wie etwa dem Farbausschlussproblem; s.Kap. 54), die schließlich im Spätwerk allgemeineren epistemologischen Überlegungen zu Wissen (s.Kap. 56), Gewissheit (s.Kap. 55), Grammatik (s.Kap. 57) und Normativität weichen.
