Zusammenfassung
Am 14. Oktober 1906 wurde Hannah Arendt in Hannover geboren. Ihre Eltern, Martha Cohn Arendt und Paul Arendt, ein Ingenieur, stammten ursprünglich aus Königsberg, der Heimatstadt von Immanuel Kant. Beide kamen aus etablierten jüdischen Kaufmannsfamilien, die während der zaristischen Judenverfolgungen im 19. Jahrhundert von Russland nach Ostpreußen eingewandert waren. Mehrere Jahre nach der Geburt ihrer Tochter kehrten die Arendts von Hannover nach Königsberg zurück, wo Paul Arendt mit Syphilis in eine Klinik eingeliefert werden musste.
