Zusammenfassung

Die aristotelische Rhetorik (s. Kap. III.21) hat als zentraler Ausgangspunkt bzw. theoretische Grundlage vieler Ansätze in der zeitgenössischen Rhetorikforschung an Strahlkraft weniger verloren als vielmehr dazu gewonnen, was angesichts der Jahrtausende umspannenden Überlieferung ein äußerst bemerkenswertes Faktum darstellt. Zu den Grundbegriffen der aristotelischen Rhetorik, die in der modernen Forschung besondere Beachtung gefunden haben, gehören die allgemeine Definition der Rhetorik, die Gliederung der rhetorischen Begründungsmittel in logos (sachbezogene Argumentation), êthos (Charakter des Redners) und pathos (Emotionen des Publikums), der Begriff ›Topos‹ (Ort) als Suchstrategie für die Findung von Argumenten sowie als Garantie für die Plausibilität des Übergangs von Argumenten zu Konklusionen, die spezifisch rhetorischen Argumentationsformen enthymêma (rhetorischer Schluss) und paradeigma (rhetorisches Beispiel), sowie schließlich die Metapherntheorie als Kernstück einer Theorie rhetorischer Stilfiguren.
