Zusammenfassung

Das 1531 erschienene Lehrbuch ist dem englischen König Heinrich VIII. gewidmet und brachte dem Verfasser noch im gleichen Jahr die Stellung eines Gesandten am Hof Karls V. in Regensburg ein. Als Günstling des Lordkanzlers Wolsey und engem Freund von Thomas Morus war Elyot neben diesem der führende Vertreter der rasch Bedeutung erlangenden humanistischen Bestrebungen im England des frühen 16. Jh.s.
