Zusammenfassung
Obwohl oft angenommen wird, dass Ann Petrys publizistische Schaffenszeit mit dem Roman The Street, 1946 (Die Straße, 1982, M. Chenaud), begann, hatte sie schon vorher zwei Kurzgeschichten in afroamerikanischen Zeitschriften veröffentlicht: „On Saturday the Siren Sounds at Noon“ (Am Samstag heult die Sirene zur Mittagszeit) in Crisis (1943) und „Doby's Gone“ (Doby ist weg) in Phylon (1944). Eine Sammlung ihrer Kurzgeschichten erschien 1971 als Miss Muriel and Other Stories.
