In Deutschland ist Alan Bern vor allem als Exponent der Klezmer-Musik bekannt. Doch diese ist nur eines von vielen Themen, mit denen sich der Komponist, Arrangeur, Pianist und Akkordeonist beschäftigt. Im Jahr 1955 als Kind jüdischer Eltern in Bloomington/Indiana geboren, begann er mit fünf Jahren Klavier zu spielen.
