Die Frage wollte Hofmannsthal im Anschluss an das Gespräch über Gedichte in einem weiteren Aufsatz erörtern. Der Plan blieb Fragment, das Thema rückt aber in den folgenden Jahren ins Zentrum seines kritischtheoretischen Interesses.
