Für eine aktive politische Teilnahme an der Märzrevolution eigentlich noch etwas zu jung, soll Raabe sie doch emphatisch begrüßt haben. Einige der beteiligten Schriftsteller und Intellektuellen lernte er später, vor allem auf seiner Reise von 1859 und während seiner Stuttgarter Zeit kennen.
