Zusammenfassung
Das Autobiographische nimmt in Gottfried Kellers Werk einen hohen Stellenwert ein. Sein Roman der Grüne Heinrich (1854/55, 1879/80) wird »sowohl der Geschichte des (Bildungs-)Romans als auch derjenigen der Autobiographie« (Wagner-Egelhaaf 2000, 172) zugezählt, und auch das übrige fiktionale Werk enthält, worauf vor allem die literaturpsychologische Forschung von Adolf Muschg (1977) und Gerhard Kaiser (1981) abhebt, eine Vielzahl autobiographischer Referenzen. An dieser Stelle soll es indes um Kellers nichtfiktionale autobiographische Schriften gehen, um tagebuchartige Notate und Aufzeichnungen sowie um zusammenhängende Entwürfe und Skizzen, die Keller zu seiner Person und seinem Leben hinterlassen hat. Ausgenommen ist der Briefwechsel, der eine Vielzahl autobiographischer Informationen zu Keller enthält; ihm ist ein eigenes Kapitel gewidmet (s. Kap. 31–33).
