Zusammenfassung
Die Kleist-Forschung hat einen Nachholbedarf in Sachen Intertextualität.1 Die vielen Monographen waren sich darin einig, bei der Interpretation von Kleists Dramen den Seitenblick auf mögliche Prätexte zu scheuen, weil er möglicherweise die Leben-und-Werk-Logik gestört hätte – und weil von Kleists eigener Hand so wenig auffälliges Material vorliegt. Diese Feststellung ist nicht ganz neu, denn für die Relationen von Kleist zu Goethe oder Kleist zu Schiller ist festgestellt worden, dass ein erweiterter Forschungsansatz wünschbar, ja notwendig sei.2 Aber für die Beziehung Kleists zu Shakespeare ist so wenig geschehen, dass nicht einmal ein eigener Artikel im ›Handbuch‹ notwendig schien.
