Zussamenfassung
Der Begriff der Liebe (erôs) ist sowohl mit Platons Seelenkonzeption als auch mit seinem Begriff von Philosophie eng verbunden und steht damit im Zentrum des platonischen Denkens (Krüger 1963; Gould 1963). Zugleich nimmt die Liebe im Denken Platons eine Sonderstellung ein, insofern mit ihr ein nicht-rationales Moment Eingang in die platonische Erkenntnistheorie findet (Dodds 1970, 107–122; Moravcsik 1972; Frede 1993, 409 f.), die sich in der Regel durch die Betonung von Rationalität und Mäßigkeit sowie durch die Abwertung der nicht-rationalen Begierden (epithymiai), zu denen auch die Liebe zählt (Leg. VI 782d–783b), auszeichnet.
