Abstract
Radulović researches the dominant, institutional form of theatre in Serbia during the wars in the former Yugoslavia (1991–1995). Despite the fact that during the 1990s, some important non-institutional theatres came into being in Serbia, the bulk of theatrical production at the time was the work of classic, state-run theatres. Her focus is on plays which dealt with the war in a direct or indirect manner. She analyses three plays staged by the Yugoslav Drama Theatre of Belgrade, artistically the most prestigious theatre in the country: William Shakespeare’s Troilus and Cressida, The Last Days of Mankind by Karl Kraus, and The Powder Keg by Dejan Dukovski. In addition to these, she focuses on the first contemporary Serbian drama to deal with the current wars: Tamna je noć [Dark Is the Night], written by Aleksandar Popović.
