Abstract
Among the myriad of musical activities, singing, that is, playing with the human voice, has a longer history than any other instrument, and it still draws the attention of a large portion of the audience who listens to music today. Singers cover a wide range of fields and areas of expertise, including popular music singers, Korean traditional musicians, and classical vocalists. In general, when we sing, our voice clearly shows vibrations at low and mid-range frequencies, but these vibration characteristics deteriorate in the high-frequency range. There are, however, a few female sopranos who can consistently produce the highest notes even in the high frequency range. In this paper, in order to confirm whether these soprano singers actually show distinct vibrations in the high frequency range, we analyze the vibration characteristics of four Korean sopranos to ascertain the depth of their vocal vibration. The results show that the soprano singer D has the highest vibration depth, followed by soprano A, soprano C, and soprano B.
