Abstract
Spain’s history diverged from that of Western Europe because of the Muslim conquest of 711 A.D. Spain had been Romanized, like France; the Latin language had evolved into a Vulgate Latin, as in France; the culture and social structure had been influenced similarly as in France; even the Norse conquest—by the Visigoths—had been similar to France.
