Abstract
This chapter aims to provide an informed and critical account of the key features of nature-based tourism in Turkey, namely Yayla tourism. Our main focus is on Yayla tourism in Turkey’s eastern Black Sea region. In order to provide a detailed analysis, two case studies are presented, which show sustainable and unsustainable forms of tourism in this part of Turkey. These case studies will demonstrate the particular opportunities and challenges facing the alternative tourism sector in this economically dynamic, predominantly Muslim country of 78 million people, located in a politically unstable region at the interface between Europe and Asia.
