Abstract
In this section, we describe the knowledge concerning of general perioperative management of pediatric patients. In the beginning, we explain about cerebral autoregulation as a basic knowledge for better understanding of the concepts of anesthesia for neurosurgery. After that, we advance to describe each phase of anesthesia management mentioning especially important points of perioperative management such as prevention of perioperative aspiration pneumonia, hypothermia, hypoxia, and so on. In addition, we mention propofol infusion syndrome as an important topic by the perioperative management in pediatric patients. At the end, we introduce “Ohm’s law for the hemodynamic in the human body” from the standpoint of cardioanesthesiologists, which is very simple but very helpful in thinking about the cause of the change in blood pressure and the adequate choice of therapy and medications. Anesthesia and perioperative management for the neurosurgical patients must always be one part of a continuous process of patient care. Internal guidelines have to be agreed by neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists, and intensivists to ensure continuity in the whole patient care.
