Abstract
Although electrochemical transducers are attractive options in the field of biosensing due to their practicability, simplicity, low power requirements, and low cost, porous silicon electrochemical biosensors have not received as much attention as optical ones. In this article, we conduct a comprehensive review of the applications of porous silicon in electrochemical biosensing mainly based on the four types of transduction, namely, potentiometric, impedimetric, amperometric, and conductometric methods. Nowadays, porous silicon advantages such as large surface area, high tunable porosity, and biocompatibility are the main factors to develop new approaches for porous silicon functionalization, derivatization, and oxidation as well as porous silicon nanocomposites preparation. These are lead to the realization of advanced porous silicon-based electrochemical biosensors.
