Abstract

Complex ankle fusion is a common condition that has responded well to the Ilizarov method. Circular fixation has been successful at correcting deformity, obtaining union, and equalizing leg length through tibial osteotomy. Prolonged time wearing the external fixator is associated with large lengthenings. This long consolidation period has been curtailed by the lengthening and then nailing (LATN) technique which utilizes reamed IM nailing as soon as the distraction phase of lengthening is complete. Stress fracture is an uncommon sequela of ankle fusion that will also be covered in this case report.
