Abstract
A navigation system (NS) helps a user to reach a destination from a given location. However, they provide a limited user experience as they are user-agnostic, i.e. they do not consider user characteristics, preferences, or conditions. This paper presents a systematic literature review (SLR) on human-centered NSs, which are NSs that personalize their interface and/or their contents based on a user model in order to improve the user experience. The aim of this SLR was to identify the most important elements of human-centered NS, their application domains, and the existing limitations and challenges. To perform this SLR, the PRISMA method was applied. As a result, we obtained 15 papers, which let us see that user models have been primarily described as ontologies, that this information is used in the selection of routes and their display, and that applications have been proposed for indoor and outdoor environments.
