Abstract
Ecological problems in cities include air pollution, water pollution, urban sprawl, heat island effect, and others. Nature-based solutions (NBS) contribute to urban resilience by using natural systems and processes to address environmental problems. Vertical greening system benefits include cooling effect, particulate matter reduction in the air, noise reduction, increased urban biodiversity, aesthetics, value of a building and credits in green building rating system, etc. Clematises, as ornamental climbing plants, are proper for using in green facades. Phenological rhythms and shoot growth dynamic were investigated for 8 cultivars and species of genus Clematis (C. alpina `Pamela Jackman’, C. macropetala `Maidwell Hall’, C. ispahanica `Zvezdograd’, C. fargesii `Paul Farges’, C. taxensis `Princess Diana’, C. tibetana, C. viticella, and C. integrifolia `Aljonushka`). The plants were categorized by shoots length (with a length of shoots more than 3 m, 2–3 m, less than 2 m) and the period of shoot growth (early summer, late summer—early autumn, mid—late autumn).
