Abstract
The continuing interest of tourism researchers to quality of life issues in tourism and hospitality has generated extensive literature, investigating the effects of tourism on various quality of life domains. A novel research stream, suggesting the notion that certain quality of life indicators can be viewed as performance measures in tourism, is gaining great attention. It is argued that the convergence of conventional performance measures with quality of life indices will promote sustainable tourism development and further contribute to communities’ quality of life. This chapter discusses the reciprocal link between these sets of measures and further contends a new perspective on destination performance. The chapter concludes with recommendations and future research directions.
