Agriculture, Environment and Development

Abstract

Agri-food production and agrarian development constitute some of the most challenging areas of public policymaking, ecological conservation and socio-environmental justice nowadays. It is not by chance that George Monbiot affirmed, in a The Guardian article on 19 May 2022, that ‘the banks collapsed in 2008—and our food system is about to do the same’. Major deficiencies in food systems have become unmistakeably apparent, including conflicting values, uncertain supply chains, power imbalances and low institutional capacity and unequal rights and entitlements.
