Abstract

As a threatening stimulus, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic evoked reactions in people, one of which was fear. Fear is a complex emotional reaction that needs to be considered during the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the scales that has been widely used during COVID-19 pandemic is the Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S). FCV-19S was originally developed in Persian language and later translated into more than 27 languages worldwide. This chapter provides an overview of the development of the FCV-19S and its psychometric properties including reliability, factor structure testing via confirmatory factor analysis or exploratory factor analysis, network analysis, and item response theory. Future studies are needed to consider using qualitative approaches for obtaining the first-hand experiences of fear among people during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
