Abstract

In this introductory chapter we outline the reasons for editing a volume which gives a voice to multilingual and Anglophone early-career researchers (ECRs). Their contributions shed light on a series of questions of importance for the field of English for Research Publication Purposes. Among these is the question of whether or not those who use English as an additional language of research publication are at a disadvantage vis a vis their Anglophone peers. We briefly review the key objections to the Anglophone—English as an additional language (EAL) dichotomy. We also underline the affordances offered by the use of reflective and dialogic research approaches such as auto/duo/trioethnography, examples of which we find in the accounts of the ECR contributors. The second part of the chapter briefly reviews the sixteen contributions and highlights the recurring themes and concerns of their authors.
