Abstract
Under the Trump administration, entertainment media has served as a means of resistance and an educational tool for audiences through storytelling. This chapter examines the recent reboot of Party of Five, which follows five Mexican siblings as they survive together after their parents were deported to Mexico. Drawing on transnational feminist studies, the authors used critical discourse analysis to explore the series and found three main discourses: (1) Community Building as Outsiders, (2) Gendered Intersections, and (3) Race and Non-Western Resistance. The show’s usage of US immigration and foreign policy serves as a backdrop and allows for complex storylines to disrupt the mainstream narrative.
