Abstract
Eating addiction has been described as a behavioral addiction and a possible characteristic associated with the development of obesity. This disorder is significantly complex, and an adequate assessment of the individuals that suffer from it is needed. The Addiction-Like Eating Behavior Scale (AEBS) was recently validated and aims to evaluate addictive eating behavior in adults. The AEBS showed good reliability and validity for evaluating the addictive eating behavior of the adult population and was able to successfully predict a variation in body mass index above that accounted for by the other scales that assess eating disorders or food addiction. Therefore, the AEBS is a short, reliable, and validated scale that could be used to assess eating addiction in adults. The AEBS is very important for clinical practice considering that a better understanding and characterization of eating addiction can potentially help confront an important public health problem around the world: obesity and its comorbidities.
