Abstract
Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) is a well-established and effective surgical treatment of obesity. Successful long-term weight loss outcomes are reported in patients who have undergone LAGB; however, with alternative operative techniques becoming more popular, the role of LAGB is becoming increasingly selective.
The technique for LAGB insertion is now universally standardized, but important anatomical factors require consideration when planning surgery and will be addressed within this chapter. The key controversies related to LAGB are associated with the complications and their management. The modern bariatric surgeon should have the skillset to manage complication profile that will be addressed in this chapter.
