Abstract

The aim of this paper is to provide information about the contact stress and pressure distribution in the contact region of a general kinematic pair of a cam mechanism with a flat-faced follower and eventually with a spherical-faced follower. The contact region is composed of the contact of the working surfaces of a cam and a follower. The knowledge of the distribution of the contact stress and pressure is a determinant for the service life estimation of the contact surfaces.
