Abstract
Focusing on Nordic Noir, Saunders takes a geocritical approach to screened border spaces and the border crossings of screened spaces by bringing together the geopolitics of (transnational) television drama and geopolitical drama as a (transnational) televisual genre. Looking at five recent series from the region (one from each Nordic country), Saunders applies three conceptual frameworks to explore how contemporary crime drama (re)presents the “way the world really works” in northern Europe: the criminal, focused on the “detection” of illicit flows and transgressive acts as entertainment; the liminal, examining movement across borders both in terms of representation and as televisual products themselves; and the seminal, interrogating the notion of sexualised, evil and/or polluting seeds which germinate as a result of globalisation.
