Abstract
The unprecedented rate of urbanization levels across the globe has resulted in the destruction and a complete disappearance of heritagical resources. This chapter seeks to make a contribution that interrogates how heritage resources are of importance in urban planning and the urban spaces and consider how such may be critical in future. Value extraction is considered to be of paramount significance in the planning for heritage conservation, however, there is shallow understanding on how value can be extracted from urban heritage. In terms of literature, little studies have been done on urban heritage and value extraction, therefore this study seeks to provide literature on value extraction and urban heritage resources. The chapter is based on study that was purely qualitative in nature and qualitative methodology has been used to gather information mainly from secondary sources, that is reviewing of academic journals and other relevant literature.
